What is stopping you?

Recently I have seen post on one of my Facebook friends time line.
It was a picture of a horse which rein was hooked up around the leg of one of garden plastic armchairs. Writing underneath the picture was saying that "sometimes what is stopping you  is just in you head".
We all learnt that, many times, but we still tilt to doubt ourselves and allow our ego to tell us what we can and cannot do.
In my training and fighting experience I have been going through many different stages from "I am indestructible!",through "how much more can I take?", to"is this the end?".
It is related to different emotions and different circumstances, that we all going through.
Injuries, personal issues and many other things depends on situations.
It all have been talking to me many times and giving me mixed feelings.
After all, when the dust settles down I do come to this same conclusion once again.
I do realise once again that all negative thoughts was no needed and they have been simply created by my own mind.
There is no limits in my life!
The only limits are the once I do create myself.
That's another reason why constant training and fighting helps me to create better future for myself,my family, our Academy and our students.

Hard work pays off

During my still not very long but active and full of different experiences life.
I have met so many different people with so many different approaches to the world and surroundings.
Each individual makes it own way through they life, uses their abilities their own way too.
Everyone has its story and its  reasons behind it.
I have met many talented and hard working people, people with abilities and people with passion and drive.
Everyone has its own way of development and achieving their goals.
Out of my own experience I have learnt that whatever describes you doesn't mean nothing if you do not put enough hard work.
Life isn't easy we all go through ups and downs, one thing which always makes me go forward,is my vision of the future.
GMMA Academy is my body, mind and spirit development institution.
Hard work is another way of meditation.
Seeing our GuruMuayThai and Gukwoone kids and adult students improving in the gym and outside is something that helps me through the weak days too.
Hearing from them or their parents that they see improvement in some aspects of their lives due to our training is makes my biggest payday ever.
That's why believing in hard work and never give up attitude is something we wanna share from the youngest to the oldest GMMA member.
We also wanna make sure that their hard work is rewarded to back up our words.

Benefits of sparring.

Thursday morning started very positive.
I had seven hours of good, deep sleep fallowed up by nice hot bath and cold shower.
Last few days of training have been really intense and I could feel that usual quick shower before bed is not enough.
Could feel that my body need some more love.
I woke up pretty fresh.
It is amazing how little you need to be happy.
Two fried eggs and bit of beans for breakfast, that was my pro sparring
recipe.
Me and one of my friends (rivals team fighter and instructor) met up in the ring to exchange our experience and practise our skills.
We know each others styles pretty well already so mentally and physically we know that it is going to be intense.
We also know that even though this is only training  session we still could get damage if we are not careful.
So we treat each other with respect and awareness looking for the gaps and trying to perfect our movements.
This kind of sparring is essential for people who do any kind of martial arts.
That's why we do have separate sessions of GuruMuayThai and Gukwoone called GMMA Fight club,
where we spend time on sparring only.
It makes you understand how it works in real situation.
Strikes, blocks and movement you've been drilling during your normal session cannot become useful if you do not know your distance and timing.
You learn how to react in certain situations and how to stay focused under pressure.
It makes you know what you are made of, when you get hurt  or get winded and you still need to cope with other attacks. As you go, you look for different options, trying to not become predictable and looking for new opportunities.
Changing your range, mixing up combos, striking at different heights and different angles.
I do always compare it to a real life and try to learn as much as I can.
I do truly believe that becoming better fighter makes me better human, coach, instructor, men, husband, son, brother...
It opens my eyes at many aspects of life.
And gives me good idea of where I am and where I wanna go to achieve my goals.
Because I believe that real fulfil in life can only come with your hard work, patience, constant development and sharing what you got with others.
Just like we do in GMMA Academy.

Don't waist your time.

Watching our youngest Gukwoone and GuruMuayThai students makes me come to many conclusions.
One of them is that I wish I have started my Martial arts education much earlier.
There are many things I would do differently if I could turn back time.
It doesn't mean I regret anything.
Whatever decision I made, whatever action I took, it all made me who I am.
And as a hard working and constantly improving person I am on my way to my own greatness.
One very important lesson life has taught me is that time is flying and we should not waist any second of our lives.
So what i do try to do now is watch carefully what life brings to my hands and take the most of it.
If you got motivated, if you think of doing something that could improve your life and possibly lives of others (your family, friends, even some random people).
Don't over think it!
Just do it!
Other way some other ideas and your ego will suppress it.
You will most likely come back to it in time thinking, where could you have been right now if you moved on with it at the first place.
Of course sometimes it is a lot of coincidence and sometimes we simply need to grow up to certain things.
But if you at least give it an honest try straight away you might flow with it and save some time.
Some people say "maybe that's how it suppose to be".
I believe it is supposed to be the way you create it for yourself.
At GMMA Academy we don't believe in such a thing like "lucky punch".
Every punch and kick thrown during the fight has been executed with intention of harming the opponent,if shot got delivered and made the damage it means ,that striker did what he has practised and got what he was aiming for.
Exactly like in every days life!

How do I keep myself motivated?

Motivation is like a little spark,it can make the fire but need some other components.
Also fire which is not being looked after can easily fade away.
To make that fire burning you simply need to take action.

To keep it up through the windy, rainy and cold days you need to find safe environment.
It is always easy to achieve your goals with like minded people, with people going through this same path.
You can learn from others, hear about their experience and safe some time by using their guidance.
We don't always have to learn on our own mistakes, have your ears and eyes open then will be able to avoid some obstacles. That's how our GMMA coaches guide me.
New challenges and new supplementation with other types of activities which you might benefit from could be another mile step in keeping the fire burning.
We do suggest our GuruMuayThai and Gukwoone students different types of tests like;gradings, sparring, competitions. All of that gives you something to to work for keeps you focused and progressing.
Of course you do need to listen to your body and have right balance;work, recovery, sleep, nutrition.
Tiredness can damp down your fire too.
Sometimes you might need others to tell that you should take rest. (That's from my own experience:-)

Practise

Sometimes I hear questions asked by GMMA students, my friends or simply people I meet.
How can I perfect my kicks and punches?
How can I increase power, speed or stamina?
How do I become better martial artist or fighter?
How can I gain or loose some weight?
And many other similar, important to me questions, that I am always looking to answer the  best possible way for each individual.
I have been asking exactly this same questions, on my way to get where I am. I truly understand importance of finding the answer.
One thing I've learnt over years of training and being the part of Gukwoone and GuruMuayThai association is that;
-dedication
-patience
-and practise,
Will bring all your answers.
Simply if you wanna be good kicker, you've got to kick.
If you wanna be good puncher, you've got to punch.
Speed, power, skills and everything else will come with practise.
As you probably have heard on different occasions.
Everydays practise of 20 minutes is always better than, once a week, for three hours.
If you wanna be good at something, just do it!

Fasting day

So far Sundays used to be my rest and getting back energy days.
I would always try to spend some quality time with my wife and friends.
Sometimes I would allow myself some little food treat that I wouldn't normally eat during the week.
I still wanna spend Sundays with my wife and relax but I see it as a perfect day for fasting.(water only)
Out of my studies and research fasting once a week could be beneficial for you in many ways.
The way I see it, it suppose to help me clean some toxins from my body.
Trigger fat burning in my reserves,
while help me with my weight management (as long as I do control my food intake after fasting).
I am hoping that it will help me control my hunger between the meals during the week.
It is definitely another way of practising my discipline and will power.
I have choose Sunday as I don't think it would be the greatest idea during a week when I am busy with GMMA Academy work, Gukwoone and GuruMuayThai training.
I've got to tell that I had some quality sleep and woke up earlier than usually.
Did my morning jog on the empty stomach, took the shower and had some light breakfast, full of proteins and vegetables.
Allowed my body to digest what I've eaten and took a bus, instead of bicycle,to go down to the gym.

Learning from others.

Just sitting and relaxing after another great GuruMuayThai training.
At one of the local Shepherds Bush restaurants having some fish and vegetables for dinner.
Looking at the big screen in the corner of the restaurant, which is showing common wealth games in Glasgow.
Analysing our training and having my eyes hooked up on the badminton game, Scotland against Malaysia.
Thinking of what we have practised today and what I am constantly working on and how much in common has that with badminton.
If you keep on going in the straight line backward and forward you are becoming predictable.
I do always advice my friends and Students of GMMA ACADEMY to go and practise other sports at your own time.
It will all contribute to your fighting skills and to your life experience
By doing it you become wiser, understand different aspects and teach your brain and muscles different reactions.
Gukwoone and GuruMuayThai training is putting many different elements and skills together on its own.
But we are very open minded people and we are constantly trying to improve.
Wherever I go I do try to get another lesson to become better person, better fighter and instructor.
When I am swimming,  playing football, watching tennis, cooking, cleaning or working out my diet.
Every little thing done right can help you to understand a little bit more.
